United Methodist Women (UMW) is a national organization of 800,000 members whose mission is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders, and be advocates for social justice. Members raise $20 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children, and youth in the U.S. and in numerous countries around the world.

UMW Purpose Statement
UMW is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

What is a Circle?
UMW at FUMC Palatine has a number of small groups, called Circles, which meet on a monthly basis. Our circle meetings offer a chance for fellowship, sharing of joys and concerns, and small group study.

Busy Beez
Meets the 4th Saturday of the month at 8:30 am in the Adult Meeting Room. Led by Barb Bohn

Dorcas Circle
Meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1:00 pm in the Adult Meeting Room. Led by Martha Lindblad

Mary Circle
Meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 9:30 am in members’ homes. Led by Marie Haynes

Ruth Circle
Meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 12 pm in the Adult Meeting Room. Led by Lois Glave

How else can I get involved with UMW?
In addition to Circles, we have two social action groups:

Teddy Bear Ministry
This group meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 1:00 pm in the Adult Meeting Room to make bears to comfort young patients in the Pediatric Unit at Northwest Community Hospital. As of September 2010, over 10,000 bears have been delivered. Sewing skills are welcome but not required. Contact Jo Ann Jacobs more information.

Have a Heart Pillow Ministry
This group meets the 1st Thursday of the month at 9:00 am in the Adult Meeting Room to make heart-shaped fleece pillows for breast cancer patients at Alexian Brothers and Lutheran General Hospitals. No sewing skills are required. Contact Kay Daugherty with any questions.

How do I join UMW?
If you are interested in joining the FUMC Palatine unit of United Methodist Women or finding out more, contact UMW President Fran Kuh or Membership Coordinator Meredith Gieseler.
