Sonrise
School
The purpose of our Early Learning and Preschool
program is to provide a nurturing Christian environment for
young children and their families, one that fosters a
love of learning, awareness of self and others, and a
sense of accomplishment built on a child's natural
curiosity. We make learning fun! Depending on the age of
the child, classes are available from 1-5 days per week
for your convenience. Click here to take a peek inside our classrooms.
We have two "New & Improved" changes coming for the 2012-2013 school year! First, we are extending the length of our Monday-Wednesday-Friday classes by 15 minutes which will make them the longest half-day classes in the area. Second, we are increasing the length of our school year by one week overall, making our preschool year the longest in the Palatine area.
SONRISE SCHOOL REGISTRATION for 2012-2013 is UNDERWAY!
Contact the School Director for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: The Sonrise School office will be closed May 24 through September 3, 2012. No one connected with the school will be available to personally answer your phone call. Please do NOT call the church office staff for help with any school or medical questions. You can email Jan Cobb, the School Director, during the summer. Please be patient for a reply, as we are off enjoying the summer, too!
What curriculum do you teach?
For our Early Learners (Young 2’s and 3’s),
age appropriate activities foster language development,
self-help skills and early socialization. Art, music,
dramatic and outdoor play, and literacy are just some of
the activities that your child will have an opportunity
to engage in.
For the preschool and pre-K students,
instruction is offered in math, science, art, music,
literacy and Christian Ed. Themes of interest to
children change every week and the topics include
apples, aviation, Dr. Seuss and even the rain forest.
Socialization skills are also emphasized. Pre-K students
receive lessons in writing, pre-reading and other skills
required for entrance into Kindergarten. All preschool
children learn and say simple prayers at welcome, snack
time and dismissal.
Are classes offered year-round?
Classes run from September (after Labor Day) until May
(before Memorial Day). We observe the same
holiday/vacation break/severe weather closing schedule
of District 15 Schools in Palatine. Sonrise School is
closed during the summer (June, July and August). Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year we will be adding 5 days to our calendar (in May), making our preschool year the longest in the Palatine area.

What are the qualifications of
your teachers?
All of our teachers meet the educational requirements of
the State of Illinois for early learning and preschool
instruction. Many on staff have college degrees and 5 or
more years of teaching experience in the field of early
childhood. All staff must undergo a background check,
provide reference letters and complete 15 hours of
in-service training annually.
What are some of the highlights
of the preschool?
- Preschool and pre-K students take several exciting
field trips over the course of the school year.
- We have “Fun Fridays” on selected dates with special
themes like the Teddy Bear Picnic and the Pajama Party!
- Parent/Teacher conferences are held twice a year
where you receive written progress reports.
- We have a “Daily Chat” at the end of each day with
one of your child’s preschool teachers. You will receive
information on the day of your child’s class.
- Pre-K ends with a Graduation and heartwarming
special program for the whole family!
