Small Groups
at FUMC
Small groups are a way we as a church connect with
one another. Every group is a little different, but all
meet regularly to accomplish an agreed upon Christian
purpose. Small groups are intentional, existing for a
specific purpose that every member understands and
embraces.
Are there different kinds of
small groups?
There are four basic types of small groups:
- Working Together – primarily focused on an
agreed-upon task, like service to others; examples
include our Super Sibs Mission small group that
volunteers once a month locally for an organization that
ministers to siblings of children with cancer.
- Caring Together – primarily focused on a common
need, like support and enrichment; examples include our
Mothers of Small Children small group.
- Learning Together – primarily focused on a Bible or
book study; examples include The Saturday Women’s Bible
Study.
- Being Together – primarily focused on relationships,
sharing a particular interest or reason for being
together; examples include The Empty Nesters small
group.
Why should I join a small group?
A small group is a great way to meet other people and build
the kind of relationships that provide acceptance, care,
fun, and support. As group members share their joys and
concerns, friendships deepen. You’ll find yourself both
giving and receiving encouragement to help navigate life’s
ups and downs. It's a place to love and be loved, as you
grow together in Christ.
When, where, and how often do small
groups meet?
That’s decided by each small group. Some meet in the
evening, but others get together during the day. Meetings
can be at church, in group members’ homes, or any other
place the group agrees upon. A number of small groups gather
once or twice a month, while others meet weekly.
How do I join a small group?
It is our hope that all people who call FUMC Palatine "home"
will belong to a small group, no matter what their need,
passion, season of life, or spiritual maturity may be. It
would be our pleasure to help you connect with an existing
group, or form a new small group. Please contact
