Marriage
Ministry ... because building a better marriage needs tools
The FUMC Marriage Ministry is dedicated to helping
couples build Christ-centered marriages that will Last a
Lifetime, be a Light to the World, and Leave a Legacy
for future generations. Our ministry is committed to
serving couples in all stages of marriage in a variety
of ways.
What does your ministry offer?
To foster our goal of building Christ-centered marriages, we use a three-part approach:
1) REACHING IN - learning to meet your spouse's needs
“Marriage 101” Seminars
For seriously dating, engaged and newlywed couples. This
half day seminar covers the topics of communication,
conflict resolution and finances.
Premarital Mentoring
Couples take an on-line assessment to evaluate each
individual’s attitudes about marriage, money, sex, and faith
among other topics. The goal is to highlight areas where you
and your partner may share similar, as well as different
views. FUMC mentors are trained to interpret the assessment
results, facilitate a discussion on these issues, and
establish the parameters for the rest of the mentoring
process.
Workshops/Seminars/Open Forums
These are topical, 2-3 hour sessions on specific areas of interst to married couples, held periodically throughout the year.
TGIW (Thank God It’s Wednesday)
TGIW is a mid-week renewal time of fellowship and study – supper is at 6:00 pm, followed by a multiple week course from 7:00-8:00 pm on diverse topics that impact the marriage relationship. We do not have a class scheduled for the current TGIW session but please check back periodically to see what's coming up!
Retreats
This is a time for married couples to get away from the pressures of their normal schedule, and spend focused time together with other couples to enrich their marriages, using a Biblical, guided format.
2) REACHING OUT- working together in service to others.
This includes involvement in church-sponsored missions, and special community outreach projects, as well as World Service projects.
3) MAKING FRIENDS - joining other FUMC couples for fun and fellowship
Social Events
We sponsor periodic opportunities for fun and fellowship,
including the “Marriage is Fun . . . Really” Picnic, an annual
couples bowling event, “date nights” and our “Celebrate
Marriage” Potluck.
