New to FUMC?

We know that people often like to observe things for a while before they are ready to ask questions, join a group, or serve on a ministry team – we understand that. At FUMC there are many opportunities to check things out, including Sunday worship, Wednesday evening suppers and classes, and even music concerts.

Our Sunday morning worship services last about an hour. Early in the service the pastor will invite the congregation to greet one another but don’t worry, no one is going to single you out as a visitor or ask you to stand up and give your name. We encourage you to stick around in the lobby for fellowship between services and enjoy a beverage and snack. If you have any questions, stop by the information desk or look for a member of our Newcomer Team – they’re the ones wearing name tags with big green ribbons.

Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions:

What times are the worship services?
Sunday worship services are at 9:00 am and 10:30 am.

Where do I park?
Our parking lot is located on the east side of the building. Cars also park along the neighboring streets on Sunday mornings.

Is there a main entrance?
While the church faces Plum Grove Road, the main entrance is really the ‘back door’ off the parking lot.

Once inside, will someone direct me where to go?
There will be someone to help you at the information desk right when you walk in.

Do you have a nursery?
Yes. We have a nursery for the little ones, newborn to age 2.

What do you have for my kids?
Children’s Ministries offers Sunday School from 9:00 - 10:00 am for children age 2 through 6th grade. Our COMPASS Youth Ministries also have Sunday School classes for students in grades 7 through 12 at 9:00 am.

Is there Sunday School for adults?
Yes. Adult Sunday School is offered at 9:00 am. It may include bible studies and /or book discussions.

What if we don’t believe the same things?
We believe Jesus Christ is our Savior. We welcome people from all backgrounds, regardless of where you are on your spiritual journey. Many of our visitors have never been to church before, or haven’t attended church in a long time.

Will I be asked for money?
We don't expect our visitors to give, so feel free to let the offering plate pass by when it comes down your row.

Can I participate without joining right away?
Yes. You are always welcome at worship. You can drop by for dinner and class on Wednesday evenings. Or you might want to join us on a service project or participate in one of our small groups.

How can I learn more about FUMC?
You can talk to the person at the information desk on Sunday mornings. You can also call (847-359-1345) or email the church office with any questions. Finally, we encourage you to check out the rest of our web site.

How do I become a member?
If you are considering membership at FUMC, please come to one of our Get Acquainted Luncheons. In addition to enjoying a meal together, it's a time to get to know us better and us to know you. We'll also fill you in on our three week class, Together in Christ. This is an introduction to our church and the Methodist faith and it's a great way to get further acquainted with the pastors and other members of our church family. It's also an opportunity to review expectations regarding membership.
